When the fight for Torah reached our doorstep

We thought it would never happen—but it did. In what was never imagined possible, on April 1st of 2024, the Israeli government froze the funds allocated for yeshiva bochurim and kollel avreichim between the ages of 18-26, affecting over 120,000 individuals and their families throughout Eretz Yisroel.

The war isn’t over

It wasn’t another round
of empty rhetoric

For decades, there have been discussions, threats, and even new laws drafted targeting the Olam HaTorah — but, b’siyata d’Shmaya, they never actualized.

So, when the Attorney General of Israel’s Supreme Court decided the time has come to cut funding for yeshivos and kollelim, we were sure this was just another round of empty rhetoric.

This time, however, our worst fears came to pass.
Fight for Torah
A blow to the heart of the Olam Hayeshivos

Struggling financially to begin with, thousands of yeshivos and kollelim were in immediate risk of collapse. With approximately 30% of their funding cut,
they faced a staggering $108 million dollar deficit across the Olam HaTorah within that year alone.

The Torah—under attack

Yeshivos and kollelim began lowering their air condition usage, leaving bochurim and yungerleit to toil in the sweltering heat. Some already limited offering meals as they scrambled to make payments and others were preparing to close their doors completely. With nowhere to turn, these budget cuts would mean a death sentence r”l to the Olam HaYeshivos.

The impact

A Historic Journey.
An Unparalleled Movement.

Motzei Shabbos, June 22, 2024/16 Sivan, 5784

From every group of Klal Yisroel, six of the leading Gedolim—Rav Dov Landau, Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, Rav Yaakov Hillel, Rav Don Segal, the Rachmastrivka Rebbe, and Rav Avraham Salim—embarked on a historic three-day trip to the United States, leading a whirlwind fundraising tour of Jewish communities in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Monsey, the 5 Towns, Lakewood, Deal, and Toronto, they continued to England, Cleveland, Brazil, Panama, Mexico, Paris and Israel.

American Jewry responds

In an unprecedented display of unity, sacrifice, and kavod haTorah, tens of thousands joined together, braving a torrential summer downpour and intense humidity to greet the gedolim as they visited Bais Medrash Govoha of Lakewood. Lining the streets were fathers and sons, mothers with strollers, and streams of bochurei yeshiva, soaked yet undeterred, in their support for the Lomdei Torah of Eretz Yisroel.
Fight for Torah
Rav Dov Landau
“We've come here to distant America, to save the Torah world,” Rav Dov Landau called. “Fortunate are you, American Jews, that you have the merit to support and save the Torah world.”
Rav Don Segal
“Tayere Yidden, es brent a feier,(Precious Yidden, a fire is burning,)” Rav Don Segal cried. He explained that this bitter decree presents a time of great danger, beseeching the crowd to continue giving their regular donations while finding new monies to support this vital keren.”
Throughout the short, yet groundbreaking visit, Yidden came out en masse, welcoming the Gedolei Hador and opening their hearts and wallets to support this urgent and significant mission.
In days, a record $71 million was raised, thanks to the remarkable generosity of those living in the Medina shel Chesed.

The numbers were astronomical—and so was the support

They said it couldn’t be done. They said it was too much, too fast, too far beyond reach. But Klal Yisroel has never measured its response by logic alone.

From every corner of the globe, Yidden opened their hearts—and their pockets. Some gave from their tzedaka. Others gave from their savings. And many gave from places even deeper than that.
“We saved this money for a rainy day. But, there’s a mabul happening!”
Reuven Wolf, Philanthropist and Founding Board Member exclaimed.
The gedolim made it clear that these funds shouldn’t be in place of other tzedakos, but that they should come from the keren, from the principle, because critical times demand critical action.
$115 million dollars raised from 33,000+ donors across 21 countries in just 4 months
