Reliving the Moment: Monsey Joins Together in Support of Keren Olam Hatorah

Monsey became the stage for a remarkable display of achdus and kavod haTorah as Keren Olam HaTorah’s historic mission to sustain the yeshivos and kollelim of Eretz Yisroel reached the community. 

The Monsey campaign began at the home of renowned philanthropist R’ Lazer Scheiner, with the participation of Harav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlit”a, Harav Don Segal shlit”a, Harav Dovid Cohen shlit”a, and Harav Malkiel Kotler shlit”a. R’ Reuven Wolf praised R’ Lazer for his trailblazing role in the Adirei HaTorah initiative, crediting him as the “Nachshon” of this generation for stepping forward first when the challenge seemed insurmountable and inspiring others to join the Keren Olam HaTorah mission.

The mission continued at the home of another leading baal tzedakah, R’ Shimon Glick, where Harav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, Harav Dovid Cohen, Harav Malkiel Kotler, Harav Yosef Chevroni, and Harav Asher Dovid May joined dozens of supporters from across the Monsey area. Opening the event, R’ Shimon described the painful reality now confronting the Torah world in Eretz Yisroel following devastating government cuts. “In previous generations, Torah Jews had no money,” he said. “Today Hashem has given great wealth to baalei batim — and it is no coincidence. Hashem creates the supporters in every generation to sustain the Torah. Keren Olam HaTorah is the campaign of all Klal Yisroel: Sefardim, Chassidim, and Litvaks together. Supporting this fund is the greatest kavod haTorah of our time.”

Harav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlit”a lauded R’ Shimon Glick as “the leading supporter of Torah in our generation” and compared the unity of Keren Olam HaTorah to Matan Torah at Har Sinai. “Every supporter becomes a partner in the mission of Klal Yisroel,” he said. Harav Dovid Cohen shlit”a emphasized the existential role of Torah: “It is Torah that sustains us in America, in Eretz Yisroel, and throughout the galus. Without Torah, creation itself could not stand. Today, many yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel simply could not continue without Keren Olam HaTorah.”

Harav Malkiel Kotler shlit”a added a striking analogy: “This is not just a ‘keren’ — this is Keren Olam HaTorah. Torah is the Iron Dome of Klal Yisroel. Without Torah, we have no zechus to exist.”
